In addition to other duties, the Fire Division conducts fire investigations and arson
investigations. Major Ray Marbut and Fire Division Sergeant Tim Follis are both Kansas State Certified Fire Investigators, and
several other members of the department have a vast knowledge of fire investigation.
Our agency has assisted several area departments with investigations of fires, arson cases,
and even homicides related to arson cases.
The majority of the fires in our district are investigated and prosecuted locally.
All members of the department are trained on basic fire investigation and we are extremely
proud of our ability to complete these investigations and prosecutions within our agency.
In 2006 the Fire Division was assigned forty-three fire investigations. Twenty-three of the investigations were ruled arson. These numbers do not reflect basic fire investigations conducted on each fire response to establish a cause.
