The Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS) Police Chaplain Program was revitalized in early 2004. The program currently consists of six police chaplains from different faith backgrounds. The chaplains are a vital part of the department and assist with everything from housing and money for needy individuals to assisting officers with death notifications. The chaplains share the responsibility of being on call so that a chaplain is available at all times.
The chaplains spend time patrolling with officers, and attend training with members of the department. The program is one that many agencies have employed, and it has become successful beyond the original ideas of what a police chaplain program would entail. Police chaplains, as do officers, wear many different hats and become involved in many aspects of law enforcement and community service. We are proud to have the chaplains on our roster.
