The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) is comprised of officers who investigate major crimes, assist with investigation of more minor offenses, and follow-up on criminal cases initiated by patrol. The unit is allotted one Sergeant and one is under the direction of Special Services Division Captain Bruce Relph.
CIU officers often find themselves working on several cases at the same time. One member of CIU is on call at all times for patrol support and to assist in the event of a major crime. CIU is notified on all major crimes and all cases where life was lost.
CIU officers are also responsible for coordinating the transportation of persons who are in custody on local warrants as well as transportation to and from court proceedings for these people.
CIU regularly supports patrol division members with larger and more complex cases. The unit takes pride in having the knowledge and resources to solve most any offense that occurs within the city. In addition, our CIU members frequently assist outside agencies with investigations and follow-up.
Our agency is proud to have state of the art technology assigned to this unit such as video multiplexing systems, which allow us to view and duplicate a variety of security videos from local stores.
