The Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS) Communications Division is comprised of dispatch and the
clerk/typist positions of the Department of Public Safety.
The Augusta Department of Public Safety currently employs five full time dispatchers. Communications supervisor Lance Hilton oversees the daily operations of the communications division. Each of the other four dispatchers work regular shifts and are assigned to one of the four patrol crews. The dispatchers
work with the same patrol crew daily.
Our dispatch is one of three dispatch centers in Butler County. The Andover Police Department has one center and all other agencies in the county are dispatched through Butler County Communications, located in El Dorado. Augusta provides a backup for both Butler County and Andover in case of 9-1-1 failure or other needs.
ADPS dispatchers are responsible for a variety of demanding tasks. These tasks include answering 9-1-1 and administrative phone calls, dispatching for police and fire services, and utilizing computers for support of both divisions. This division is a fast paced, multi-task oriented environment.
In addition to dispatch, the Communications Division hosts the agencies clerks and records
sections. The Augusta Department of Public Safety employs two typists, one who is responsible for typing dictated reports created by officers and assisting with records management and release. A second clerk position is responsible for administrative tasks and data entry.
