The Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS) Community Relations Unit (CRU) is host to the departments School Resource Officers, the D.A.R.E. instructors, and other community involvement functions. CRU falls under the command of the Special Services Division.
The unit consists of one school resource officer assigned to the Augusta High School, one
school resource officer assigned to the Augusta Middle School, and one officer assigned to
teach the D.A.R.E. curriculum to the elementary school students.
This unit also coordinates and assists with community involvement projects, such as
"National Night Out", the "Bugs
Bunny Club", and "Gobblin' Good Time" events. These events
are designed to bring the community and the Department of Public Safety together. The "Bugs Bunny
Club" and "Gobblin' Good Time" are events that were designed by members of the Augusta
Department of Public Safety to allow school aged children to bond with officers in a fun and
non-stress environment. These programs help to show the children that officers are available
to help them and to ensure that the only time children see officers are not during enforcement
activities. Click here for information on upcoming events.
In addition, the unit coordinates officers and equipment for attendance at various block
parties throughout the city, as invited. To invite officers to your block party, or for
information on special events, click on the links above or contact the Community Relations
Unit at (316) 775-4500.
