Information Technology and Crime Analysis

The Information Technology and Crime Analysis unit of the Augusta Department of Public Safety (ADPS) is tasked with maintaining the agencies in house computer system, records management software, and compiling statistics for the departments activity.

The agency normally is able to solve in house computer related issues through this unit, and this unit prepares computer work stations, as well as any other computer related items, for use by the department. Our agency has a computer server which allows us to store all reports and information on a centralized computer for access by officers at any given work station. In addition, this unit was instrumental in upgrading the server to allow for individual officer e-mail access in 2003.

The Crime Analysis unit tracks department statistics. These statistics include the number of citations issued, cases initiated, criminal offenses cleared, and number of arrests. These statistics are compiled for monthly and yearly activity reports. These reports are then submitted to the City Manager and City Council. The statistics play a role in funding, manpower, and justification for equipment needed by the agency.
